The Voice of the Blockchain Community

The Blockchain Bundesverband was founded on 29 June 2017 from the midst of the German blockchain community. The non-profit association quickly grew to more than ninety members, including the leading start-ups in the blockchain sector based in Germany.

As the voice of the German-speaking blockchain community, we are the central contact for companies in the DACH region on the topic of blockchain. Our goal is to connect companies in the community and promote the technology.

Our ranks include experts on legal issues as well as those on the topic of project financing. We answer questions from the community, even if we are entering completely new legal territory.

We draft position papers and statements and thus play an opinion-forming role in the DACH region. Companies can and may be active in our successful working groups: We are there for them with expert knowledge around various blockchain use cases. To this end, we organise events and network the community.

Our Mission

Blockchain technology is decentralized “by design” - which is why Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLT), of which blockchain is the best-known form, is always about collaboration: technically, organizationally and also in terms of applications. This is also what the German Blockchain Association (Bundesblock) stands for: working together on the infrastructure for the interconnected society of tomorrow! 

Because the following applies to ALL companies and institutions: none of them can be decentralized or sustainable on their own. And as a society, we urgently need to create an intelligent, secure, transparent and resource-conserving network of people, machines and institutions in order to master the challenges of the coming decades. This means that we have to rethink many things, need more sustainable, effective innovations and, above all, an efficient, cross-sector orchestration of technologies - even across industry boundaries. 

This is why we are committed to promoting digital, distributed and cryptographically encrypted infrastructure and services (often referred to as “Web3”). This “new generation of the Internet” is characterized by participation - so it is about more than just technical innovation, but above all about anchoring democratic principles in the highly automated “backend of the future”.

Bundesblock and its members are thus working on the basis for tomorrow's prosperity and on the educational, regulatory and entrepreneurial framework conditions to make both Germany & Europe the center for participation, transparent processes, sustainable economic development and innovative companies. 

Our Key Claims

  • . Blockchain technology must be recognized as a key technology and be part of the innovation strategy of the federal government and the companies based here. We must establish a powerful and secure backend for the Digital Decade 2030 through appropriate funding programs and institutional, Europe-wide coordinated cooperation.

  • Creating innovation-friendly and legally secure regulations for Web3 projectsthat make Germany a pioneer and role model for efficient digitalization.

  • Legal certainty in civil and tax matters as well as for administrative actsin order to establish Germany as a preferred location for the blockchain economy.

  • Secure and Web3-compatible digital identities based on self-sovereign identities (SSI) provide an equitable technical basis for government ID wallets. This requires the certification of DLT systems by the BSI.

  • Use of blockchain as a tool for efficiency and transparency,for example in administration and industry, through the establishment of trustworthy registers, audit procedures, and identity solutions, as well as electronic signatures in accordance with the eIDAS Regulation.

  • Blockchain technology as a fundamental building block for interoperability and cybersecurity,including through the application of cryptographic processes in conjunction with automation via smart contracts and increased research into trusted Oracle solutions for critical infrastructure in industry and transportation.

  • Use of tokenizationto incentivize investment and behavioral change, especially for sustainability solutions. incentivieren, vor allem für Nachhaltigkeits-Lösungen.

  • Blockchain as a tool for participation,essential for example in creating a legal framework for DAOs (Decentralized Autonomous Organizations) in Germany and for access to economically viable financial and investment products.

  • Blockchain and Web3 as part of a digital innovation and education initiativeaimed at strengthening transparent exchange within the scientific community through open source and decentralized science (DeSci) and the use of DLTs, as well as comprehensively training the innovation skills of future generations.

  • We are committed to secure, GDPR-compliant data storage and data marketplaces —one of the key areas for the future. Europe must succeed in becoming a leader in these applications. Otherwise, we as citizens will once again be left with no choice but to use services with lower (data) security standards.

Finally, we also consider it our shared responsibility to establish blockchain technologies as the basis for secure value transfer overall. Accordingly, we will monitor the introduction of Central Bank Digital Currencies and private stablecoins just as critically as the market for other crypto assets in terms of their security and liberal, solidarity-based characteristics. After all, our industry should primarily produce applications with real benefits.
